Flashback Fridays: 15 Years of Magic Parade

Happy Friday! This week for Flashback Friday we Have some Photos my Grandfather took during the 15 Years of Magic Parade which celebrated ... You guessed it Disney Worlds 15 Anniversary. The Parade ran from October of 1986 till September of 1987. I was there too but i was also 3 and believe it or not did not have my first camera yet. Also below is a link to the newest video uploaded to the Manifesting the Magic YouTube page. It's the theme song to this very parade.

Bonus Flashback: Take a look at the Diamond Horseshoe back then so bright and welcoming. Then look at it now. One of the most under utilized spaces in the Magic Kingdom. Hope the show comes back one day.

Rock n' Roller Coaster is old enough to drive!

Happy sweet sixteen to Rock n' Roller Coaster. opened on July 29th 1999 this thrilling indoor roller coaster takes guest on a ride in a limo threw the street of L.A. on the way to a performance by Areosmith. Wow that sounded corny huh? Well that's what it is a fun corny experience and there's nothing wrong with that. To celebrate I composed a list of facts that are fun i call them fun fact. Hope you enjoy them.

Fun Facts:
  • The attraction is 1 minute and 20 seconds long.
  • The launch at the beginning of the attraction take riders from 0 to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds
  • It has three inversions
  • Each train has 120 on board speakers playing the sweet sounds of Aerosmith as you ride.
  • Top speed is 57 mph
  • Ride has 5 trains each identified by its license plate, they are: 1QKLIMO, UGOBABE, BUHBYE, H8TRAFFIC, AND 2FAST4U.
  • There is a 6th limo it comes out when another needs to be refurbished. However it has no plate instead maintenance will swap the plate of the train coming off.
  • In the pre show on screen Joe Perry ask Chris to grab his black Les Paul. In the early years of the attraction they would position a Cast Member in that room just for that line. Then they would grab the guitar take it off stage and after the guest left would bring it back for the next show .
  • This attraction has many Hidden Mickeys one however is a physical effect. in the pre show on the ground a coil of cables makes this Hidden Mickey.

Took this photo with the lights on one day when the attraction
went down and guest were evacuated. We were at the launch
but instead of walking us back to the load area we got to walk
through the attraction and leave at the exit.

Electricians Closet: The Wilderness Lodge

Today on the third installment of Electricians Closet we head to the shores of Bay Lake to take a close look at some of the lighting of the Wilderness Lodge. One of the most highly detailed and themed resorts at Walt Disney World, The Lodge resembles the great lodges of the American National Parks. This includes the Old Faithful Inn, where most of  the exterior and lobby get its inspiration. The look will defiantly put you in a place where you wouldn't be shocked to spot a buffalo roaming near the pine trails. But its the lighting that really delivers the final punch to full immersion.

Animal hide is a recurring theme it makes great lamp shades. Below we see some great examples. From top left going clockwise we have: A hard to spot Chandler in the Wilderness Mercantile shop just off the lobby. Next a floor lamp in a side room off the villa's entryway. One of many wall sconces along the halls of the main building, most have unique paintings on them. And lastly in the lower left we have famous Tepee Chandlers. The sad thing is this is also an example of what the folks at Disney like to call bad show. if you look close enough you'll see that the first tepee's top half is not illuminated... and that makes me sad.

The next example or set of examples of themed lighting I want to show off is the integration of stained glass. It gives almost the same look as hide or canvas but changes it up just enough to add some Art Deco nods of class. Below from left to right: Chandler in Villas hallway, below that a wall sconce in the main guest hallways. The middle we have the Marquee for Artist Point restaurant. And on the right top a lantern from the hall by Artist Point leading to Roaring Fork. Below that a sconce at the Old Faithful Club on the concierge floor.

This next photo shows two more examples of stained glass but here we see how they work to light the room and set the mood. On the left the main room of Artist Point. On the right the seating area in the Golden Spike Room at the Villas.

And lastly today we are going to look at the lighting of the night. All that external lighting that not only helps you see where your going but again sets the mood. This time it sets a mood of relaxation and calming. Taking the pool and courtyard areas from loud and sometimes crazy spaces to one of serenity and even romance.  Below from top left going clockwise: Path lights leading to the small pool, The front of the Lodge. The back of the lodge. Path Lighting on the trail that leads to Fort Wilderness Campground.

Sing Along: Carousel of Progress

Today we have a double dose. both themes from the Carousel of Progress. Great big Beautiful Tomorrow   (the original and current theme) and Best Time of Your Life (the theme from 74 till 94). Best Time of Your Life was added to the attraction on a Request by General Electric. The Sherman Brothers were not to thrilled about it but I'll save that story for another post. Below the lyrics is a link to the Manifesting the Magic YouTube page where I have posted the famous video of the Sherman's and Walt singing Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow.

Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow

There's a great big beautiful tomorrow
Shining at the end of everyday
There's a great big beautiful tomorrow
And tomorrow's just a dream away

Man has a dream and that's the start
He follows his dream with mind and heart
And when it becomes a reality
It's a dream come true for you and me

So there's a great big beautiful tomorrow
Shining at the end of everyday
There's a great big beautiful tomorrow
Just a dream away

Best Time of Your Life

Now is the time.
Now is the best time.
Now is the best time of your life.

Life is a prize, live every minute.
Open your eyes and watch how you win it.
Yesterday's memories may sparkle and gleam,
tomorrow is still but a dream.
Right here and now,
you've got it made.
The world's forward marching and you're in the parade!

Now is the time.
Now is the best time.
Be it a time of joy or strife.
There's so much to cheer for, be glad you're here.
For it's the best time of your life.

Art's Archives: Experimental Prototype Vinyl of Tomorrow

In my Disney collection almost from the day i was born this LP has had hundreds if not thousands of plays over the years. It has even been transferred to cassette tape so I could hear it on my Sony Walkman. And more recently it has been made digital and now rest on my phone. But the original vinyl still gets plenty of play at home.

We chose to go to the Moon!

46 years ago today Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin took the first steps on the moon. This moment in history can be argued as the most defining event of the 1960's and maybe the 20th century. More people around the world watched the landing live then any other event. They even watched from Disneyland.
The crowd watches Neil's "one small step".
